Welcome to the Sussex Indian Punjabi Society website. The Sussex Indian Punjabi Society (SIPS for short) was formed in May 1997 in Brighton & Hove and surrounding areas by members of the local Indian Punjabi community. The group was formed to help connect the community and to ensure younger members were exposed to our culture and cuisine. On our website we will keep you informed about our society’s and the other local Indian community’s activities and functions. Hope you enjoy viewing our website.

What’s SIPS’s

The Sussex Indian Punjabi Society (SIPS for short) was formed in May 1997 in Brighton & Hove and surrounding areas by members of the local Indian Punjabi community. A centenary remembrance of Indian soldiers who fought in the First World War
This commemoration is to honour and remember the 1.5 million Indian combatants and non-combatants who contributed to the First World War and to acknowledge their legacy and historical value to the City of Brighton and Hove.

What’s Diwali

Deepavali or Diwali, popularly known as the "festival of lights," is a five-day Hindu festival[3] which starts on Dhanteras, celebrated on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna paksha (dark fortnight) of the Hindu calendar month Ashwin and ends on Bhaubeej, celebrated on second lunar day of Shukla paksha of the Hindu calendar month Kartik. Dhanteras usually falls eighteen days after Dussehra. In the Gregorian calendar, Diwali falls between mid-October and mid-November.
